Some common omelette additions include onions, ham, bell peppers, green onions, spinach, sausage, olives, diced tomatoes, carrots and mushrooms. Use any or all of the ingredients, in a combination of your choice. You can use cheddar cheese, swiss cheese, goat cheese, feta or any other type you like.
To prepare a mushroom omelet, slice mushrooms into thin slivers and cook them. Whisk 3-4 eggs in a bowl. Add a pinch of salt, pepper, a little milk, and a handful of cheese. Use your spatula to lay all the mushrooms evenly on the bottom of the pan and keep the heat low. Then pour the eggs on them. Gently swirl the eggs around to make a circle shape. Flip one half of the omelet after 2 – 3 minutes. Cover and let it cook for a few more minutes.
Don’t use a nonstick skillet to make an omelette using this technique. The high heat can cause the nonstick coating to flake off. This method works best with just 2 eggs, but you could add a third if you’re quite hungry.
This technique can take some practice. The pan should have enough butter so that the omelette easily slides across its surface and flips. Use a spatula to turn the omelette over if you’d prefer not to chance flipping it.
