Luckily, several crafting experts and enthusiasts have taken their skills to TikTok, where they’re making tutorials that are perfect for every level, beginners included. Here are some favorites:

  1. Try finger-knitting a blanket

The idea of knitting a garment or item by hand is appealing to many, but picking out the right materials for any given project can be a challenge. To take the guesswork out of it, start with finger-knitting—a specific type of knitting that doesn’t require any needles and instead uses only your hands.

Watch DIY TikToker @coze_creations’ tutorial, found here, on how to make a simple blanket, using only some thick, chunky yarn of your choice.

  1. Create a tiny ecosystem

TikTok is flooded with upcycling projects that take used, often-forgotten items and gives them a second life. However, depending on the size of the project, they can require a lot of time, supplies, and space.

A good intro to the world of upcycling comes from @hihathome, who advocates for using empty, glass jars as the basis for a miniature terrarium. Another plus, adds the TikToker, is that the adorable terrariums make “great gifts.”

  1. Make your favorite pasta dish

While some may not consider this one a “craft,” it offers many of the same rewarding benefits as the others on this list—plus, you get to eat it. Making pasta from scratch is not only impressive but surprisingly doable for the home cook, even without a fancy pasta roller.

Check out @peterspasta’s video that breaks down the process for making fresh pasta dough, and then watch @thefamilytable’s tutorial on how to roll it out, sans pasta machine.

  1. Propagate some herbs

Now, to spice up your homemade pasta, try this easy trick for growing herbs at home. As TikToker @cosgrome notes in her video, the popular propagation method helps you “turn your store bought herbs into plants.”

The only supplies needed are a small container (she uses old spice jars), an herb of your choice, some water and some sunlight. If you follow her instructions, you should have a baby plant that’s ready to go in some soil after about two weeks.

  1. Have a spa day at home

For a spa day on a budget, try raiding your fridge. According to dermatologist TikToker @skinbydrazi, “avocados nourish and hydrate the skin, yogurt has lactic acid that gently exfoliates, [and] cucumbers brighten the skin.”

After grating the cucumber, mix it with mashed avocado and plain yogurt to create a nourishing face mask. As with anything skin-related, however, be sure to consult a dermatologist before trying it out, especially if you have any sensitivities or concerns.
