Like all Mazdas, this one’s seriously fun and sporty. Though I wouldn’t argue that this midget twin-seater is practical, it does have one of the largest trunks I’ve seen in its class. (It handily carries four bags of groceries.) And this Mazda is loaded with standard goodies, like power one-touch windows and fog lamps. As for handling, the rear-wheel-drive MX-5’s chassis is taut with front and rear stabilizer bars, the steering’s tight and it wears 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, making for a confident ride through twisty canyon roads. This is where the Miata and its driver should be at home, especially on a sunny fall day with the top down.

Tip: For $1,250, gets the Xenon headlight package with Dynamic Stability Control for superior traction.
