A Bigger Net

NEWSWEEK has learned that New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, who is investigating the matter, is planning to depose Goldman Sachs CEO Hank Paulson as soon as Thursday. Paulson was on the NYSE compensation committee that helped approve Grasso’s $139 million retirement package. And on Tuesday, Spitzer’s deputies took testimony from former Merrill Lynch CEO David Komansky, also an NYSE compensation committee member. A spokesman for Goldman had no comment; Komansky couldn’t be reached....

A Breakup Is Too Harsh

Although the legal issues in the case won’t be resolved for some time, one thing is clear: the government’s plan to dismantle Microsoft and subject the remains to harsh regulatory constraints would cripple Microsoft’s ability to innovate on behalf of consumers and could undermine the future success of America’s high-tech industry. The proposal would put government lawyers and the courts in the position of deciding what new innovations will be allowed in Microsoft software....

A Brush With Anonymity

But something different happened. My friends – and key players like George Stephanopoulos – believed my initial fibs. I found this fairly unsettling, and a little frightening: what was I in for now? And then a lot of things began to happen very quickly. The book began to fly out of the stores. It became a VERY BIG DEAL. And attention shifted to many other suspects. Henry Kissinger was mentioned....

A Case Built On A Web Of Damning Detail

That would give the government something it sorely needs – a live witness who can describe some of the planning for the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history, and possibly give some insight on the perpetrators’ beliefs and motives as well. Although McVeigh, as this week’s NEWSWEEK interview reveals, has turned out to be a cagey suspect, there is every reason to believe the Feds have charged the right man in the bombing....

A Christmas Story

Between Guam in 1945 and Desert Shield in 1990, I spent 20 Christmases overseas with U.S. troops. At the front in Korea in 1950, Douglas MacArthur made sure turkey got to his units when our army was in the middle of a long retreat and threatened with destruction: I was on a recon beyond the front lines when a jeep bounced up with turkey and all the goodies. In Vietnam in 1965, Gen....

A Class Act For The Ghetto

While Randolph bridles at the criticism heaped almost reflexively on young blacks, she doesn’t blink at what her fifth graders face along South State Street. The housing projects are overrun by gang members. Families are fractured. Drug dealers fire their weapons for terror and sport. But that’s old news; her job is building a new world, even if that means getting between two girls fighting in a hallway. It was the kind of challenge her DePaul instructors had told her to expect....

A Comeback

He’s not alone in that assessment. Many Argentine business people and economists have put aside their initial reservations about Kirchner, a left-of-center Peronist who took office five months ago. During his brief tenure Kirchner has nailed down an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that rolled over more than $12 billion in loans for the next three years and established unusually flexible fiscal targets for the government. The president won more plaudits at home when he served notice on the mostly foreign private holders of Argentine government bonds that they can expect to lose at least 75 percent of their investment....

A Conservative Likely Leaked The Dobbs Decision Opinion

The logic as to why a conservative and not a liberal is probably to blame for the leak stems first from our knowledge that Chief Justice Roberts was, at the time of the leak, still trying to convince at least one other member of the conservative majority to support a more measured decision that would not have overtly overruled Roe but that would have upheld Mississippi’s 15 week abortion ban....

A Detailed Look At Mold Allergy

People who work or live in buildings with water damage sometimes complain of “black mold” or “toxic mold.” Instead of the mold is toxic, it’s more likely the mold is causing allergies. Mold typically grows in homes that experience water damage. Importantly, buildings with water damage have been shown to be linked to sick building syndrome, which causes nonspecific symptoms such as fever, fatigue, and nausea. What Is Mold? The term “mold” refers to multicellular fungi which grow as a mat composed of intertwined microscopic filaments....

A Different Battle Is Underway For The Future Of Politics And Business Opinion

Young voters played an exceptionally large role in the 2020 elections. An analysis by Tufts University found that participation among those ages 18-29 may have jumped 10 percentage points or more from 2016. “They made the difference in key battleground states, and the participation and overwhelming support for President-elect Joe Biden from youth of color was one of the defining elements of the election,” the university wrote. This age group includes members of Gen Z and some on the young side of the millennial generation....

A Fast Break In Boston

After eight years in which he restored the University of Kentucky to college-basketball pre-eminence, Pitino, 45, has been called upon to perform another salvage job–this time on the NBA’s most storied franchise. There was not a glimmer of Celtics glory, past or future, in the last season’s 15-67 team. But in six months at the helm, Pitino has transformed the franchise. Boston’s roster is the youngest in NBA history; the eight new faces on the floor Friday averaged under 23 years old with less than one season of NBA experience....

As was the case when the civil suit was filed in federal court in June 2013 — a week before Hernandez was arrested for Odin Lloyd’s murder in Massachusetts — Bradley has not pressed charges against Hernandez, but has named him as the shooter in the suit....

As a general rule, any carved cameo made from a natural material can be considered authentic. Some of the materials used include shell, agate, carnelian, onyx, ivory, lava, coral, jet, bone, mother of pearl, and various gemstones. A cameo is referred to as being non-authentic or fake if it has been made with plastic or resin. Soft plastics chip easier than shell, porcelain, and stone do. 3 Ways To Train Your Hair

If possible, start shampooing only every other day. Everyone’s hair type will need a different level of moisture. The more moisture you need, the longer in between shampooing. Eventually, your body will recognize it no longer needs to produce an excessive amount of oil to hydrate your scalp, making your hair less greasy. Cool water will seal the cuticles of your hair, making your hair look much shinier. If your hair feels dry or flat on no-shampoo days, try pulling it up in a bun or ponytail....
